UX-Ray Chrome extension

The UX-Ray Chrome extension lets you scan any site directly from your browser and see UX issues flagged against Baymard's guidelines.  The extension works on staging sites, live pages, and URL-based prototypes.

Scans return a list of UX Insights, which are auto-rated UX guidelines prioritized by user impact as observed in Baymard's large-scale qualitative testing. The number of guidelines included in the scan depends on your plan level.

Whether used on Baymard, in Figma, or in Chrome, UX-Ray rates guidelines with at least 95% accuracy compared to expert manual evaluation of the same guideline across dozens of test sites.

Installing the extension

  1. Go to the UX-Ray Chrome extension page.

  2. Click Add to Chrome.

  3. If desired, click the Extensions icon in the Chrome toolbar and pin the UX-Ray extension icon for quick access.

Running a scan

  1. Go to the URL you want to analyze. This can be a staging site, prototype, or live page.
  2. Click the UX-Ray extension icon in your browser toolbar to open the side panel.
  3. If needed, sign in to your Baymard account.
  4. Click Scan Page with UX-Ray to start a scan.
    The extension will scan the page in your active browser tab. You can switch tabs while the scan is going.
  5. When the scan is finished, click any UX Insight to view the issue, recommended fixes, and linked guideline.
  6. To analyze a different page, navigate to that page and run a new scan.

Scanning competitor sites

You can also go to a competitor's site and run a scan to see how their UX compares to your own. This is useful for quick competitive checks without requiring a full site audit.
